About this Crew

Giulio Vernetti

Giulio Vernetti

Winemaker

Giulio runs the family estate in La Morra with his brother. They farm 6 hectares of Nebbiolo across three crus and make one wine: Barolo. He trained under his grandfather and has not left Piedmont except to visit Burgundy once a year.

The history.

My great-grandfather Giovanni bought the farm in 1921. We have the original books. Nebbiolo, always. No Barbera, no Dolcetto sold under our name. Four generations, one grape.

What this vintage is showing so far.

β€œNebbiolo wakes up late β€” we're behind everyone else in the hills and that's how it should be. The fog came every morning this week. Exactly what Barolo needs.”

β€” Giulio Vernetti, updated this month

Philosophy.

Traditional Barolo. Long macerations, long aging in botti grandi, no barrique. My grandfather made wine this way. My brother and I make it the same way. The market can move β€” the wine does not.

Nebbiolo is behind schedule, like always. I don't worry. My grandfather would say: Barolo waits.
