The Pinot Noir pushed its first leaves overnight β two days ahead of what my notebook says. semi-continental, one of the southern hemisphere's southernmost wine regions is running warm. I'll take it, cautiously.

About this Crew

Revealed on enrollment
Winemaker
Made on a small Central Otago estate β Pinot Noir on schist and loess over free-draining gravels. Anonymous by design: the trade name is revealed on commitment, after the samples and the data have done the talking.
The first vines here went in before the appellation lines were drawn. We still farm a handful of those old blocks on schist and loess over free-draining gravels, and rebuilt the cellar around them, not the other way round.
βRain when we wanted it, then it dried out. The vines are carrying a fair crop; I'll likely drop fruit at veraison to keep the rest honest.β
β the winemaker, updated this month
My rule is simple: don't make a decision the vineyard already made for me. Schist and loess over free-draining gravels sets the acid and the tannin; I keep the cellar clean and the timing honest.

Dug soil pits across the old block. You can watch the schist and loess over free-draining gravels change with every shovel β it's why no two rows here taste the same.
