Winter pruning underway and the snowpack on the Cordón del Plata is the deepest in four years. That snow is our water all summer — a heavy winter up there means an easy season down here.

Winemaker
A Uco Valley estate at 1,150 meters — 19 hectares of altitude Malbec with a parcel of Cabernet Franc on the cooler upper terrace, raised in concrete egg and neutral oak. The winemaker's name is shared with the Crew on enrollment; until then the platform stands behind the data, the track record, and the samples.
The first Malbec was planted here in 1968, when nobody believed the Uco Valley could ripen fruit — too high, too cold, too far from the city. The old massal-selection vines on the home block are still our best. We rebuilt the irrigation canals from the snowmelt channels in 2015.
“Up at 1,150 meters the diurnal swing is enormous — 35°C by day, single digits at night. That's what keeps the color and the acid. We irrigate off Andes snowmelt through the canals, and this winter's snowpack was good, so water won't be tight this season.”
— the winemaker, updated this month
I want altitude Malbec, not the old jammy stuff. Concrete egg for the bulk to keep the fruit pure, a little neutral oak for texture, never new barrels. The Cabernet Franc is there to add lift and a green-herb edge — it keeps the Malbec from getting heavy.

Cleaned and re-lined the irrigation canals before they freeze. Every spring the meltwater runs through these channels exactly the way it ran sixty years ago. Nothing about that has changed.

One year of your life, inside one vineyard's year. You'll follow the winemaker from bud break to bottle.
