Winemaker

Some of the world's highest vineyards, home to floral Torrontés and concentrated high-altitude Malbec. The estate behind this lot is named only to enrolled members; until then you're backing the region, the style, and a verified track record — not a label.

The history.

Cafayate has made wine far longer than any of us. We farm a small parcel of it, by hand, the way it was taught to us — high-altitude desert, intense sun, very cold nights, low rainfall.

What this vintage is showing so far.

Warm, early start, then it cooled off and steadied. High-altitude desert, intense sun, very cold nights, low rainfall The canopy's ahead of where I'd want it, so we're pulling leaves to keep air moving.

Philosophy.

Balance over power. I'd take a wine you can finish a bottle of over one that wins a tasting and tires by the second glass.

Frost candles staged at the bottom of the slope, just in case. Bud break on the Torrontés is right on time. High-altitude desert, intense sun, very cold nights, low rainfall.

No joke: the first shoots are up. We walked the property and flagged the gaps to replant — sandy alluvial soils with gravel and calcareous content here doesn't forgive a lazy season.
